If you ask Mitchell From if he ever thought that he’d be so involved in the dance community, he’ll laugh at you. Mitchell recalls back to his junior & high school days when he was a wall flower, due to the fact that he was deathly afraid of dancing. He also thinks back to all of the nights that he spent out at bars and dance halls while in college. He’ll even share with you that his wedding song and dance fall into the same category. That is, all of these moments were painful for him to even think about dancing, because he didn’t want to look like an idiot out on the dance floor. This was his stance that he took for many, many, many years. After a few years of marriage, his wife continued to ask him on a regular basis, “Can we go out dancing with our friends?” So, he felt that if this was something that she really wanted to do together, he would make an effort and tell her that if she found a place for them to take lessons, that maybe then, he’d feel comfortable to go dancing. To his surprise, this only took a few days and they were off to lessons. This is what is amazing… He Loved It! After a few months of taking West Coast Swing dancing lessons at SSQQ Dance Studio, it was recommended to him and his wife, that they should continue taking lessons at Southwest Whip Club (SWWC).
Mitchell and Ann continued dancing and within a year or two, they were now competing in West Coast Swing. They even joined a dance team and performed with their team in Atlanta, GA. Shortly thereafter, the club’s Board of Directors held their annual meeting and voted Mitchell in as the President of the Board of Directors of the Southwest Whip Club, a 25+ year old dance club in the Houston Area. Mitchell is not only the President, but he is also now one of the instructors that teaches class to the beginners. Since he was once someone who was deathly afraid of dancing because of the fear of ridicule, he can completely relate to any type of individual that comes through the door. He invites everyone and anyone he comes in contact with, to come out and just try it… you never know… you might just love it!
